I enjoy thinking and writing about eighteenth-century and Romantic poetry, nature writing, the literature of place, the history of ornithology and natural history, and the interrelations between these areas. My current project is on the lives of the nightingale in the long eighteenth century, across literature, science and ecology. My second book, Nightingale for the Reaktion Press animal series, is in preparation.
