Chloe makes the headlines for Liverpool University Press
Liverpool University Press (LUP) is celebrating after staff member, Chloe Johnson, was recognised at this year’s Rising Star Awards, hosted by The Printing Charity.
Chloe, a Senior Commissioning Editor at LUP, was one of 13 winners in the Core Skills category of the awards, which commend the printing industry’s brightest prospects. The win is a significant achievement as nominations were received for professionals across the industry, including from print, paper, packaging, graphics and publishing. All winners of a Rising Star Award are granted funding towards their future training and career development.
Chloe – a University of Liverpool English graduate – started her career in publishing at LUP, following a successful Pavilion Poetry internship, which she completed as part of her studies. During the internship Chloe worked with Mona Arshi on her collection ‘Small Hands’, which went on to receive the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Since then the series has won the T.S Eliot Prize and is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Following her internship, Chloe successfully applied for the role of Assistant Editor at LUP, and shortly after a Journals Publishing Assistant role, before moving back into Books Editorial in 2016. Chloe now works on LUP’s Modern Languages and Postcolonial Studies list. In recent years, Chloe has been working on the book series World Writing in French: New Archipelagoes, published in partnership with the Winthrop-King Institute at Florida State University.
Chloe intends to spend the funding she’s received for her development on courses in copyright and permissions, to further strengthen her approach to negotiations.
Alison Welsby, Editorial Director at Liverpool University Press said: ‘I am absolutely delighted Chloe has been recognised with a Rising Star award as there could not be a better recipient. Chloe has shone brightly over the last 10 years at Liverpool University Press as she has progressed up the publishing career ladder from an undergraduate intern to her current position as Senior Commissioning Editor. Her enthusiasm for publishing, her unwavering author support, and her commitment to Modern Languages in decolonising the canon, has made Chloe one of the brightest stars not only at Liverpool University Press but in academic publishing. We are lucky to have Chloe and it is wonderful her work and commitment to publishing has been recognised with this award. Many congratulations Chloe!’
