Keen to improve your work? Not sure of the best way to structure an essay or presentation? Feeling stuck with an assignment?

If you’d like to write better, or if you’re simply seeking to enhance your fluency, clarity and style on paper, the Royal Literary Fund Fellow is here to help. The Fellow can offer one-off guidance sessions or more long-term support. Completing a simple form is all that’s required.

The Fellow is here for everyone at the University: all students, regardless of level or subject. Writing support is given in one-to-one 45min consultations that focus on good writing practice, style, technique and process, rather than content. This service is free, confidential, and entirely independent of the University.

Ian Seed is an award-winning poet, translator, short-story writer, essayist and editor. His collections of prose poetry, Makers of Empty Dreams (2014) and Identity Papers (2016), were showcased on BBC Radio Three’s The Verb, while New York Hotel (2018) featured on BBC Radio Merseyside and was named a TLS Book of the Year. His books of translation include The Thief of Talant (2016), long-listed for the Millions Best Translated Book award, and his writing has appeared in The Best British Poetry (2014), The Best Small Fictions (2017), The Forward Book of Poetry (2017), and The Encounter: A Handbook of Poetic Practice (2022). He has also been translated into Italian, Spanish and Urdu.
