New undergraduate options in World Literature and Drama Studies

Published on

The Department of English is launching two new undergraduate programmes from September 2023: BA English with World Literature, and BA English Literature with Drama Studies.

BA English with World Literature offers students the opportunity to enhance the study of English Literature with an understanding of literature written in different global frameworks.

The first year includes a foundational module co-taught by the Departments of English and Modern Languages & Cultures, in which students will be introduced to the discipline of ‘World Literature’. In the second and final years, students will have the opportunity to take optional modules from both English and Modern Languages & Cultures.

BA English Literature with Drama Studies combines modules from the established English Literature programme with more specialised study of drama.

The learning experience will be enhanced by the Department’s collaborative relationships with two local theatres – the Everyman & Playhouse and Shakespeare North – and the involvement of theatre practitioners, offering valuable practical experiences. Students will also have opportunities to create original writing for stage and screen.

Applications for both programmes will open on UCAS in September 2022. To find out more about these programmes, visit our undergraduate pages, or come along to an Open Day in June, September or October 2022.
