Announcing the English Attainment Scholarship winners for 2020-21

Published on

Congratulations to undergraduate students Jessica Bex and Cherry Dicko, who have been awarded the coveted English Attainment Scholarship.

The English Attainment Scholarship is awarded annually to the two Year 1 students with the best performance in Single Honours or Major (75%) English programmes, and continuing at Single Honours or Major level for Years 2 and 3. It takes the form of a full tuition fee waiver for the second and third years of study, funded by an anonymous benefactor.

"Getting the letter in the post was beyond a shock – I love studying literature enormously, so to receive this scholarship means so much to me, and I am incredibly grateful for it", commented BA English Literature student Jessica, from High Wycombe. Jessica is pictured below with Professor Peter Buse, Dean of the School of the Arts.

Fellow BA English Literature student Cherry (pictured below with Professor Buse), from Hemingford Grey, Cambridgeshire, said: "I was shocked and overjoyed to be awarded the scholarship! I adore the subject and I’m very grateful to the English Department for designing such fascinating modules and being so helpful and supportive in my studies. My first year at Liverpool really deepened my understanding and appreciation for the subject and I’m so excited to pursue it further".

No applications are required for the English Attainment Scholarships, as the recipients are identified by the Board of Examiners for Level One English programmes in July each year, and formally notified in writing by the Dean of School of the Arts and the Head of English.
