Patricia Routledge to support bursary for degree in English
Published on
Merseyside actress, Patricia Routledge, best known for her portrayal of Hyacinth Bucket in the BBC comedy series, Keeping Up Appearances, is supporting up to three University of Liverpool bursaries for students studying English Literature.
Patricia, who is also a University of Liverpool graduate, will support the Reading In Practice Masters programme, which invites investigation into the therapeutic role of reading in relation to human health and wellbeing.
The first of its kind in the country, the degree course focuses on the ways in which serious creative literature connects with people on a personal, emotional and imaginative level. It also offers the opportunity to learn about putting literature into practice through shared reading-aloud projects run in various locations across the country.
Riches of literary heritage
Patricia said: “My long and close association with the city of Liverpool, in particular with its prestigious University where my love of the English language and its literature found continuous nourishment, prompts me to encourage local people to discover and enjoy the riches of our literary heritage.
“I am proud to attach my name to a bursary which will help two or three people who might not otherwise be able to undertake this degree course.''
The two-year part-time course runs from October 2015 and the bursary will cover part of the overall course fee. For more information please contact Professor Philip Davis at p.m.davis@liverpool.ac.uk or visit the website.
