MA TESOL and Applied Linguistics Trip to Haworth
Posted on: 11 May 2022 in Posts
In March 2022, a group of 40 students from our MA in TESOL and Applied Linguistics programmes went on a visit to Haworth. This is the home of the Bronte sisters. You may know them from the novels they wrote – for example ‘Jane Eyre’ and ‘Wuthering Heights’.
The visit included a guided tour of the moors where Emily Bronte is said to have based the backdrop for Wuthering Heights. We then visited the old school room, built by the sisters’ father, Patrick – and the place where the sisters themselves actually taught. Here we had a talk, given by an expert, on the sisters. Then, after a visit to the Brontes’ home – the Old Parsonage, now the museum, we spent the rest of the day exploring the artisan shops, cafes and eateries in the village. It was a great day. We had fun and learned some more about English literary heritage.
