About
I joined the University of Liverpool as a Lecturer at the start of 2024, with circa 20 years' experience as a practicing Structural Engineer within consultancy.
Jobs I have been involved with range from small domestic extensions and surveys to large multi-million-pound construction projects. I have been involved in the residential, educational, and commercial sectors. Recent work includes large housing schemes and extra care homes.
Often the sites have complex ground conditions, obstructions, easements, or issues with gas.
My work has involved designing foundations and superstructures working with concrete, steel, masonry, and timber; using the British Standards or Eurocodes.
I also have experience of temporary works design.
I have also produced Structural Survey Reports/Assessments, and input into RIBA Stages 1-5 Reports.
Part of my job, outside of design work involved liaising with:
- Main Contractors – around proposed designs and engineering + value engineering.
- Sub-contractors with regards to their designs.
- Warranty providers.
- Specialist 3rd parties for surveys to inform projects.
I have experience using Tekla Structural Designer, TEDDS, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
Embodied Carbon & Regenerative Structural Engineering are areas of interest.
