About
Dr Alejandro Macario-Rojas, Lecturer (Asst. Professor) in Space Engineering, in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering since 2023. He has extensive experience in space mission design and operation, and space robotics engineering. He was formerly a member of the Centre for Robotics and AI of the University of Manchester. He completed eight postdoctoral research projects funded by the European Union, ESA, and the FairSpace Hub, among others, to support the development of Lunar robotic exploration technologies, orbital aerodynamics research, distributed deep-space space systems for space weather monitoring and forecasting, biomedical technologies, and in the study of geoengineering effects in the upper atmosphere of re-entering debris and communication mega-constellation satellites. He received his PhD from the University of Manchester, UK, after graduating with an MSc in Space Engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy, and a BSc in Mechatronics from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education ITESM, Mexico. His research interests primarily focus on space science, especially planetary science, applied space physics, space technology, and the integration of artificial intelligence.
