Students scoop 2nd place in British Model Flying Association competition
A Year 3 Aerospace Engineering student team from the University’s School of Engineering took second place in the British Model Flying Association (BMFA) Payload Challenge Weight competition, and was the highest placed UK University in the competition.
The BMFA is the United Kingdom’s National Governing Body for the sport of model aircraft flying and aims is to increase interest in aviation and engineering through education.
The BMFA’s universities and schools competition requires students to design, build and fly a load-carrying model aircraft, piloted by radio control.
Dr Mike Jump, from the School of Engineering, said: “The team from Liverpool showed remarkable design flair, technical knowledge and teamwork and I am delighted not only that they came second, but were the highest ranked UK university team.
“Congratulations go to Dan Kennedy and Yuchen Ding on getting the aircraft ready and thanks must also go to our pilot, Dave Sanderson from Liverpool and District Model Aeroplane Society (LADMAS) for his continued help and support.”
