Formula Student Mechanical Engineering

Formula Student is an international competition where students design, manufacture and construct a single seat racing car, and develop skills in managing people, marketing and financial planning as well as building relationships and valuable contacts with potential employers in motorsport, automotive and supplier industries.

The Formula Student team includes a mixture of 3rd and 4th year students, allowing the years of previous experience to be passed on to future team members.

The ultimate challenges for Formula Student are the international competitions at Silverstone and Germany.  In recent years, the University of Liverpool’s team is consistently top of the UK Russell Group and continues to be placed highly in the competitions, with sights on the top ten next year.

Formula Student at the Virtual Engineering Centre

The Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) along with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Hartree Centre and Virtalis Ltd, introduced the Formula Student team to new specialist software and Virtual Reality laboratories to support and work with them on this year’s design. watch the video of the virtual reality tyre change challenge below to see how virtual engineering interacts with the user.

Formula Student develops future engineering talent.  It challenges team members as it is very demanding, intense and hard work, but it is the best showcase for student’s engineering talent and is a highly desirable experience sought after by future employers.

Formula Student is the testing ground for the next generation of world-class engineers.  For more information about the University of Liverpool Formula Student visit http://www.formulastudent.liv.ac.uk.
