World Sneaker Championship (https://worldsneakerchampionship.com) held by Puma(https://us.puma.com) and Pensole (https://pensole.com), is a global footwear design competition which is a great opportunity for a lot of professional designers and aspiring design students to showcase their talents to the industry. Our Year 2 Industrial Design student, Tong Zhang’s entry to the 2019 World Sneaker championship was selected top 32 out of thousands of submissions. Tong designed a unique colour and material design for a sneaker, inspired by city of Liverpool and its unique urban design. Tong made it through the next four rounds of selection and design challenges, and entered the final as the Top 2 designer in the Colour & Material category.

Alongside the other 5 finalists in the three categories (Footwear; Functional apparel and; Colour & Material), Tong was invited to Puma Headquarters in Boston, USA, to develop his design into two cohesive collections with the help of designers and technicians in Puma. After two days of intensive design challenges and the final presentation, Tong was announced the winner of second place in Colour & Material category. We are very proud of his impressive achievement, and great learning. Well done, Tong!
