‌On 25 April 2018 Dr Farnaz Nickpour and Prof. Dirk Schaefer, Division of Industrial Design – School of Engineering, received the 2017/18 Faculty Learning and Teaching Award for “Leadership in Planning, Orchestrating and Delivering Excellence in Design Education”.

As part of the awards event the recipients delivered a presentation reflecting on how they had adopted and implemented the management model of a Learning Organization within the Division of Industrial Design, paving the way for success in staff leadership, student ownership and empowerment.

Both educators were nominated by the Industrial Design student body who included the following statement in their nomination:

“Within a year Prof. Schaefer and Dr Nickpour have instilled a sense of pride, community and belonging in Industrial Design. And as ID students we admire them and have unparalleled respect. This is demonstrated by the 70% of the year 2 ID students insisting both receive an award. Consistently we have recognised they feel ID is a passion not a job, and this is reflected invariably in the time, effort and support they give.”

Team Schaefer/Nickpour stated they were honored to receive this award and deeply touched by the students’ statement.
