Industrial Design Society Inauguration

On 11 December 2017 the Industrial Design students and staff gathered in the Walker Lecture Theatre for the official inauguration of the Industrial Design Society.

Master of Ceremonies, second year student James Clarke, elaborated on how the society had come into being, its purpose, and a number of activities that had already taken place throughout the fall semester.

Prof. Schaefer announced the appointment of James Clarke and Charlotte Mears (both second year students) as the society’s Founding President and Founding Vice President, respectively.

This was followed by the announcement of the winners of the Industrial Design Logo Competition run over the previous weeks.  Prof. Schaefer awarded certificates and prizes for the top 3 designs.

The evening continued with an informal dinner social and lots of free pizza (many thanks to Dan Hibbert and the School of Engineering), followed by Gary Hustwit’s movie “Objectified”, which looks at the world of design engineering and the creative concepts behind everyday objects such as toothbrushes to tech gadgets.

The event was a huge success and indicative of the growing sense of pride in being part of the Industrial Design community at the University of Liverpool.
