‌Professor Dirk Schaefer, one of the leading researchers in the area of Industry 4.0, was a sought-after speaker at conferences and events throughout the year.

In June, he delivered an invited talk on Cloud-Based Design and Manufacturing (CBDM) to industrialists at the Future Steel Forum held in Warsaw, Poland.

At the same event, he participated in an expert panel on Digitization and New Business Models for Industry 4 and was interviewed by the Industrial Internet Now on the topic of “How can Industry 4.0 help the global steel industry achieve greater efficiencies?”

A number of additional talks on Smart Manufacturability Analysis, Industry 4.0 Business Models as well as Industry 4.0 Workforce Qualification in the UK were delivered at the CIRP Design Conference at Canfield University (UK) in May and at the International Conference on Manufacturing Research at Greenwich University (UK) in September, respectively.
