What is the difference between BEng and MEng
The MEng is a four year integrated Master’s degree developed to fast-track our graduates to become Chartered Engineers with the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institution of Highways Engineers and the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation.
Chartered Engineers (CEng) are the leaders of our industry and develop solutions to engineering problems using new or existing technologies, through innovation, creativity and change. They take responsibility for complex systems with significant levels of risk.
The MEng degree is recognised throughout the UK and satisfies the Engineering Council’s academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Alternatively, many of our students take the three year BEng degree and then carry on to do a specialist Master’s degree, thus taking a different route towards chartered status.

Our Civil Engineering programme develops technical depth in a broad range of core areas (Structural, Geotechnical, Materials and Water) whilst supplementing this with the creativity and digital skills required by the modern Civil Engineer.

Civil and Structural Engineering MEng(Hons)

The structure of a building is its skeleton. Structural Engineers are specialist Civil Engineers with responsibility for the design of the skeleton of a building or infrastructure asset. They have the ability to directly impact the form, function, efficiency and effectiveness of a building. Our programme prepares students with the knowledge, skills and competence to ensure buildings and infrastructure assets are safe, resilient, sustainable, economical and buildable. Recent enhancements to our course ensure we prepare our graduates with the creative and digital skillsets required for a fast changing industry.

Architectural engineers work at the interface between Architecture and Building Engineering. They need to develop the same technical expertise with engineering systems as our other programmes with the breadth of understanding and aesthetic awareness to work seamlessly with Architects. Most importantly they need to develop excellent communication skills to use a wide range of media and techniques to reach a wide range of audiences from highly technical to non-technical stakeholders. Recent enhancements to our course ensure we prepare our graduates with the creative and digital skillsets required for a fast changing industry.
