Understanding Society Using Quantitative Methods – SOCI508
Instructor: Dr Peter Campbell
This 15 credit module looks into the rationale and practice of analysing numerical data, largely derived from survey research, and the use of such data to understand the social world.
It covers a range of skills from basic univariate and multivariate analysis techniques, to a consideration of the potential insights offered by longitudinal datasets and their analysis.
General issues regarding the generation and usage of quantitative data will be considered, and from these first principles the particularities of longitudinal research design will subsequently be examined. The context in which quantitative analysis of the social world has arisen will also be considered.
