2024 is the Year of Dragon - Chinese New Year begins on Saturday 10th February.
The dragon is the fifth animal sign in the Chinese zodiac. If you were born in 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, then it is very likely you are a dragon.
In Chinese culture, the dragon holds a significant place as an auspicious and extraordinary creature. It symbolises power, nobility, honor, luck, and success.
Fun fact: Some chinese parents would actually calculate the year and make sure their baby is born in the year of dragon! Dragons are very straightforward and clear. They’re swift, ambitious, confident, and charismatic.
Traditions to celebrate:
1. Gather with family and friends to share a big dinner. CNY is all about family reunion.
2. The elders in the family give kids red envelopes for good fortune in the new year.
3. You will see lots of red lanterns and Chinese knots.
4. Traditional foods include:
· dumplings
· hotpot
· a whole fish, symbol of prosperity
· mandarin oranges and tangerines, which symbolize good fortune. and “they look great on the table.”
