Technical staff play an invaluable role in supporting student learning through sharing their technical skills and expertise within particular disciplinary settings, designing and delivering practical learning sessions and providing feedback on student skills development. The following CPD pathway indicates valuable activities to support your learning and teaching progression at different career stages, including through taught programmes and selfdirected learning, as well as networking and leadership opportunities.

Introduction to Supporting Student Learning (Stage 1)

Introduction to Supporting Student Learning, also known as Stage 1 of Foundations of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, has been designed to address some of the foundational knowledge and essential skills needed for effective teaching in higher education settings.

Foundations of Learning and Teaching (Stage 2)

The FLTHE programme has been designed to support staff new to teaching and those with closely defined teaching responsibilities, such as visiting lecturers, professional services, clinician-educators, demonstrators, and postgraduate research students who teach, to gain Associate Fellowship. This part of the programme builds on Stage 1 through reflective experiential learning to support further development of inclusive and effective educational practice.
