The Institute in the Park at Alder Hey is a Partner Charity of the Parry Family Charitable Foundation. The EATC4Children is just one of the workstreams of the Molecular Mechanisms in Childhood Disease Programme underway at the Institute. The Programme was recently awarded a grant by the Foundation for a new -80oC freezer. Getting funding for small value pieces of equipment like the freezer are difficult to come by so we are incredibly grateful to the Foundation for this award. The freezer will support all research studies that involve the collection and storage of biosamples across childhood disease areas. Sufficient space and reliable equipment are paramount for translational research programmes, such as the programme at Alder Hey.
Previously we have been successfully awarded grants to purchase a number of pieces of equipment:
- Transfection system called a 4D-NucleofectorTM X Unit that enables the study of immune cells, stem cells, neurons, and cell lines - awarded 2019
- ThermoFisher EVOS FLOID microscope which allows us to obtain high-quality brightfield cell images - awarded 2016
- Imaging system called a ChemiDoc, which allows us to acquire high resolution and high-quality images of both nucleic acids and protein gels/membranes - awarded 2021
- AriaMx Real-Time PCR System which allows the measurement of the levels of different genes, for example in model cells and cells isolated from tissues or blood - awarded 2022
