Biography
Andy obtained his BSc in Biochemistry (Toxicology) from the University of Surrey during which he undertook a placement year with GlaxoSmithKline in department of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics where he was introduced to analytical chemistry specifically LC-MS. He completed a PhD in analytical chemistry with a focus on improving LC-MS sensitivity by moving to nanoscale flow rates for urinary metabolomics and applied these methods to investigate HIV treatment, bowel cancer and endocrine disrupting chemical exposure.
Subsequently Andy worked at a large-scale LC-HRMS metabolomics facility at Birmingham University and then swapped fields to materials science with AB-Sciex developing CE-MS proteomics and metabolomics methods for the characterisation of biomolecules involved in bio-nano interactions. Upon returning to Birmingham he continued in materials science working on CE-MS in addition to ICP-MS and TGA-FTIR-GC-MS for the analysis of nanoparticles and microplastics.
At the University of Liverpool, Andy works both with Dr Louise Oni at the EATC4C and Professor Claire Eyers at CPR on a Kidney Research UK grant investigating glycosylation of IgA in childhood IgA vasculitis and associated nephropathy.
