Dr Ana Lucia Serafim de Carvalho Kok

Biography

Ana graduated with a Biochemistry degree from the University of Lisbon in 2005. She obtained her PhD at the ITQB, Lisbon, studying the metabolism of Lactococcus lactis under acidic conditions.

She continued at the ITQB as a post-doctoral associate; working on the development of Corynebacterium as cell factories to produce commercially valuable bulk compounds such as 2,3-butanediol.

In 2013 she took on a Research Associate position at the Quadram Institute Bioscience, in Norwich studying the mechanisms underlying the communication between the gut microbiota and the immune system, working towards the development of mucosal vaccines.

Ana is now working as a Research Associate in the EATC4Children studying the mechanisms involved in the development of aberrant T cell responses in the different stages of Psoriatic JIA; looking for new diagnostic markers and treatment targets.
