Icebreaker Field Class
Fieldwork is at the heart of our undergraduate teaching and we start as we mean to go on with a field class within the first few weeks of arrival in Liverpool.
The focus is on getting to know each other and the staff, techniques used for field sampling and some of the ecosystems we will be studying in detail later on. Previously we have visited North Wales and the Sefton coastline, where we have been able to explore environments such as rocky or sandy shores. We have also taken boat-trips around Puffin Island where we’ve observed nationally important seabird populations and see seals and sometimes porpoises. The tour is led by one of our graduates who now runs a successful ecotourism business.
Students learn about some of the ways we sample the natural environment and may have an opportunity to further explore their data as part of an interactive poster day later on in this module”.
