I chose Liverpool after I had visited the city of Liverpool a couple of times and loved the area. I then attended an open day detailing the range of courses available. I liked the flexibility, the opportunity to choose a range of modules in order to decide which field I most enjoyed. The distance from home was an added bonus, with it being close enough to travel home frequently.
The best part of my course was the range of field experience I gained, ranging between half/full/ and week-long field trips. I enjoyed putting what I had learnt in lectures into practical tasks and understanding the outcomes. This lead me to choose a field related Honours project where I was able to work individually on a project in the Liverpool Mersey.
I currently work in the services department at Global Energy Systems. This is a renewable energy company manufacturing Air Source Heat Pumps. The systems have to be remotely monitored to ensure their upmost efficiency and performance. My job involves analysing data on a daily basis to identify problems and over look the general running of the heat pumps. On top of this I work on the software development team to constantly improve the functionality of the heating system.
The data analysis I carry out for my job now is very much a reflection of the work I did for many of my marine biology courses. I look for anomalies in data and trouble- shoot to rectify a problem.
