Ziad Abou-Haidar
Having obtained his scientific baccalaureate in 2002 in Lebanon, Ziad moved to Paris and gained a bachelor’s degree in fundamental physics and engineering sciences from the University of Paris VII – Denis Diderot. Following this degree he was awarded an internship at the French National Research Center (CNRS) working at the Parametric Imaging Laboratory (LIP) on the diagnosis of osteoporosis using ultrasound.
During his master’s studies, Ziad's interest in fundamental physics and particle detectors grew and in April 2008 he began an internship at the CEA Saclay (France) where he worked for 6 months on the improvement and testing of the micromegas detectors for the CAST (CERN Axion Solar Telescope) experiment. In September 2008 Ziad presented his master’s thesis on the micromegas detectors for CAST and graduated from the University of Paris VII – Denis Diderot. During his work at the CEA, Ziad learned about DITANET and the trainee position available at the CNA in Seville, Spain which provided an opportunity to continue working on detectors.
Since commencing the training program with DITANET at the CNA, in October 2008, Ziad has pursued his work on detectors. He is currently working on simulating the electric and magnetic fields, and on testing a mini-SeD (Secondary electron Detector) which was constructed within collaboration between CEA Saclay and CNA. The mini-SeD is a low pressure detector which uses an electron emissive foil and is used as a beam tracking detector. The main objective being to present a technical report about beam tracking detectors for the Heavy Ion Spectroscopy and Decay Spectroscopy (HISPEC/DESPEC) project, of the low energy branch of FAIR.
