Adam Jeff
Adam attended the University of Wales, Aberystwyth between 2001 and 2005, where he completed an Mphys degree in Physics with Planetary and Space Physics. He also learnt at least three words of Welsh and developed a love of outdoor sports.
The last semester of this degree was spent on an Erasmus exchange at UNIS, the Norwegian university and research center on Svalbard, where he studied the physics of the upper polar atmosphere and the aurora borealis. In the winter the aurora provides a beautiful spectacle and can be easily measured. By the time Adam left in June, however, the midnight sun had made work impossible and so observations switched to the EISCAT incoherent scatter radar system. During this time he also learnt to snowboard and about four words of Norwegian.
For the last two years Adam has been teaching physics at the Colombo International School in Sri Lanka.
At CERN Adam will be working on synchrotron light measurements for the LHC. Initially helping with the assembly and commissioning of the Beam Synchrotron Radiation Telescope, the eventual aim is the design of an instrument for longitudinal profile measurements with extremely short time resolution…and to learn five words of French.
