Joaquin Gomez Camacho

Joaquín Gómez Camacho studied physics at the University of Seville, graduating in 1982 and went to Daresbury Laboratory to work on nuclear reactions; he obtained his PhD in 1986.  Afterwards, he went to the University of Surrey as a postdoc, to work on nuclear reactions with polarized nuclei.

In 1987 Joaquin returned to the University of Seville, where he is now a Professor in Atomic, Molecular and Nuclear Physics. Joaquin has wide research interests, but the main line is the study, both experimental and theoretical, on the scattering of exotic nuclei on heavy targets. He has participated in experiments performed at different nuclear physics facilities; Louvain la Neuve in Belgium, ISOLDE at CERN, GSI in Germany and TRIUMF in Canada.  Joaquin has also performed research in nuclear structure, molecular physics, applications of nuclear techniques to the environment, and even climatology. Joaquin has directed 6 PhD theses, and has published more than 100 papers in scientific journals.

Presently Joaquin is the Director of the Centro Nacional de Aceleradores (CNA), a research facility which contains three accelerators, where a variety of beam analysis techniques are developed. The participation of the CNA group in DITANET is oriented to the development of novel detectors that can be used for the purpose of beam tracking for the future facilities that are being built on FAIR (Germany) and GANIL (France). Also, Joaquin wants to promote the collaboration with the DITANET partners through the use of the CNA facilities for testing detectors and beam diagnosis systems.
