The Centre for Information Resilience (CIR) is an independent, non-profit social enterprise dedicated to exposing human rights abuses and war crimes, countering disinformation and combating online behaviour harmful to women and minorities.
We achieve these goals through open source research, digital investigations, building the capacity of local partners, and collaborating with the media to amplify the impact of our work.
CIR was born out of a determination to expose those spreading harm – online and offline – around the world, particularly in areas of violent conflict. Our projects in Myanmar, Ukraine, Sudan and Afghanistan are at the forefront of efforts to investigate and document human rights abuses, war crimes, harms targeting women and minorities, and disinformation.
Programme outline
The Digital Investigations Academy was devised to train the next generation of open source investigators, and provide students with entry-level job opportunities in a field where there are few points of entry for new graduates.
Each Academy consists of 2 days of OSINT (open source intelligence) training followed by a 12 week research project, where students meet weekly with CIR investigators to strengthen and apply their research skills on real human rights cases. At the end, participants will have the opportunity to apply for paid internships with CIR.
The first cycle (applications now closed) will run from October 2024 until February 2025, consisting of two Academy programmes and two internships.
The next round of applications will be announced in due course.
