Innovation

To address the questions raised in the Institute's research themes, the Digital Media & Society Institute (DMSI) will undertake:

  • Methods innovation through the integration of multimodal analysis methods from communication and media studies and social science with computational approaches to context-based information fusion for the development of Explainable AI approaches for large scale analysis; 
  • Digital tools for theory testing and evaluation so that theory development is based on insights derived from methodological innovations and analytical results.

Methods innovation

We will develop new approaches to digital media communications using multimodal frameworks which describe how language, images and other resources are organised.
