Equality, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing (EDIW)
At the School of Dentistry, we believe that inclusivity and respect are the foundation of a positive and healthy learning experience. Everyone should be able to work and study free from discrimination. We achieve this by embedding Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing (EDIW) into everything that we do to encourage an inclusive, professional working environment for all.
Here are just some of the things we do at the School of Dentistry to promote EDIW:
- Ensure that all policy developed within the School has taken EDIW into consideration from inception through to implementation
- Have compulsory EDIW training for all of our undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Host widening participation events with targeted attainment based on race and gender
- Students at the School of Dentistry will have access to an academic advisor who provides welfare checks and signposting for personal support
- Run EDIW events such as women's development sessions, EDI lunches and black history month webinars
- We have an internal Student Welfare Team as well as a staff-student wellbeing group
- We have a Disability and Dyslexia Contact (DDC) lead to support and advise staff and students on all matters relating to DDC.
