We are delighted to announce that Sara Mohammed, an outstanding student from our School of Dentistry, has won first place in the prestigious Research Competition at the British Undergraduate Dental Research Conference 2025.
Sara's award-winning project, titled "Students' Perceptions of AI-Supported Simulated Clinical Practice," was conducted as part of the Inspire Summer Projects Scheme. Her innovative research explored the potential use of generative AI (GAI) to support contextualised simulated clinical cases, providing new insights into how AI can enhance dental education and clinical training.
Sara's project focused on evaluating dental students' perceptions of AI integration in simulated practice environments. Through data collection and analysis, she identified key benefits and challenges, highlighting how GAI can improve critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and personalised learning experiences.
Reflecting on her achievement, Sara said "Working on this research project has been an incredible learning experience. It’s exciting to see how it can enhance learning, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such meaningful work.”
Mr. Cripps, her research supervisor, commented "GAI is a rapidly evolving field that presents numerous opportunities for education. The research Sara has undertaken provides valuable insights into students' perceptions and preferences, helping us better understand how to effectively integrate AI into dental education."
We are immensely proud of Sara's dedication, hard work, and contribution to the field of dental research. Her success not only showcases the calibre of students at our School of Dentistry but also underscores the growing importance of AI in shaping the future of dental education. We'd also like to thank the Academy of Medical Sciences INSPIRE programme for funding the project.
Congratulations, Sara, on this remarkable achievement!
