The School of Dentistry recently welcomed a delegation of colleagues from the Fukuoka Dental College, Japan. The group were visiting the University of Liverpool to sign an agreement formalising a dental student exchange programme between the two institutions. Visitors were also provided with a tour of the Dental School’s advanced training facilities.
During a signing ceremony on Friday 22 November, Dean of the School of Dentistry Professor Bissell, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Gavin Brown and President of Fukuoka Gakuen Dr. Sachiyo Suita, signed a Student Exchange Agreement to enable up to five, two-week, experiential learning placements; the first of which could be as early as May 2025.
Our visitors then received a short tour of the school's facilities, including hands-on demonstrations of our haptics simulators and a tour of our OSS laboratory. The group then went on to explore the central campus and finished with a visit across Liverpool to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Also in attendance at the signing ceremony were Professor Luke Dawson and Mrs Vikki Hegerty, and Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francine Watkins. Members of the Japanese delegation included, Dr Ryuji Sakagami (Director of Fukuoka Dental College General Hospital, Periodontologist), Dr Akiko Chishaki (Dean, Nursing), Prof Mitsue Arakawa (Nursing), and Mr Kotaro Shiratsuchi (Assistant Manager of Fukuoka Dental College).
Details of our exchange programme will be shared in the coming months.
