Dental Alumni Reunion

Members of the School’s alumnus met recently to celebrate this year’s School of Dentistry Alumni reunion. On Saturday 5th October, previous graduates met at the Hilton Hotel for the black-tie event, enjoying a drinks reception and an opportunity to reconnect with classmates and tutors.

The event began with a warm welcome from Professor Sondos Albadri, Deputy Dean attending on Professor Bissell’s behalf. Professor Albadri began by recognising and thanking the Dental Alumni Association for all the support it has given to students and the school over the years.

A particular highlight of the reunion was the annual WH Gilmour Lecture, given by invited speaker Professor Iain Jackson, who delivered a fascinating talk on Liverpool architect Herbert Rowse. This was followed by a Q&A session before the Annual General Meeting of the Dental Alumni Association.

We were hugely grateful to undergraduate students Alice Shelbourne, Pranav Pillay, Mary Rowlands, Joe Shalabi, and Izzy Lawson-Jackson, who took the time to provide groups of graduates a tour of the Dental Hospital & School earlier in the day. One former student said:

“Really loved the tour. It’s not so much for all the fancy stuff that’s now here, but to see the clinics and units that we used to sit in as students, again.”

LUDSS Presidents Scarlett Armstrong and James Murray represented the student body as guests of the Alumni and helped sell raffle tickets to raise funds. Current staff who themselves had qualified at the Dental School were given the unique opportunity to reunite with their former year group.

By all accounts, everyone who attended had an enjoyable time. Reports the next day indicate the newly inaugurated Alumni President and his peer group - the class of 1984 - celebrated until the small hours!
