The Intelligent Supply Chain with Contemporary Entrepreneurialism Year in Liverpool has been carefully designed to ensure students who come to Liverpool meet the same learning outcomes as those that stay in Taicang. Course content and modules

Your year in Liverpool

During your Year in Liverpool, you will build upon the foundations you have gained in your studies at Taicang. You will demonstrate an understanding, knowledge and application of supply chain and entrepreneurship concepts and principles across a range of business contexts.

On the Taicang 2+1+1 programme, you'll study your third year at the University of Liverpool on a bespoke programme of modules tailored to match the third year of the Taicang programmes. You'll then return back to China for your final year of study at XEC

Compulsory

Fundamentals of Finance and Supply Chain (ACFI240)

Credits: 15 / Semester: semester 2

The primary objective of this module is to introduce students to fundamental principles of corporate finance, encompassing financial analysis, risk assessment, and investment appraisal. Furthermore, it aims to provide a solid grounding in essential financial and investment strategies. Students will delve into these fundamental principles and strategies while simultaneously examining their intersection not only with the financial markets but also with the complexities of supply chain dynamics. Topics of exploration will include supply chain structure and its financial processes, effective working capital management, leveraging supply chain finance for cost optimization, understanding supply chain finance instruments, and exploring innovative approaches to supply chain finance.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT: TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES (EBUS209)

Credits: 15 / Semester: semester 1

Operations management is all about how businesses create and deliver products and services, making it a key function of business. This module aims to introduce a range of operations management tools and techniques to students and considers their application to contemporary business environments. The module focuses on organisational level operations managements, encouraging students to consider the tools and techniques used to direct, design, deliver and develop operations management in both manufacturing and service contexts. Real world business examples are used throughout the module to explore principles in practice. Students on this module will develop an understanding of how the design and delivery of operations can be optimised to help a business to achieve competitive advantage. Students are introduced to topics such as lean, sustainability, supply chain management, process design and layout.

Inventory and Warehouse Management (EBUS240)

Credits: 15 / Semester: semester 2

The module provides students with a comprehensive understanding of those activities related to receiving, storage and shipping materials to and from production or distribution locations, and highlights the critical role of inventory and warehouse management in the strategies of contemporary supply chains

Corporate Entrepreneurship (ULMS240)

Credits: 15 / Semester: semester 1

This module addresses one of the most important topics in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation enabling students to respond to the challenges and opportunities posed by complex and uncertain business environments. The module is designed to equip students with the skills and attributes that individuals need to demonstrate in a corporate context. The objective of the module is to focus on management and leadership practices in a corporate context. It will approach the evaluation of corporate entrepreneurship (or intrapreneurship) by drawing attention to relevant theories/models and tools that can be applied in a broad range of business contexts including the private, public and third sector organisations. It provides an opportunity for students to develop and create new business solutions that can enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of organisations.

Business Modelling and Innovation (ULMS241)

In today’s business environment, new and disruptive business models are emerging reflecting an in depth understanding of market needs, how new and emerging technologies could meet those needs, and of the resources and capabilities required to make the business a success. This module is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge of how to better understand customers’ ‘real problem’ and build a product or a service as a solution to the problem identified. The module will take students through the start- up journey from developing a concept to engaging with the market and building a business model (using the Business Model Canvas as an entrepreneurial tool) as a platform to launch a new venture. The module will draw on relevant theories/models related to entrepreneurship and opportunity recognition, entrepreneurial leaderships, business modelling and innovation that can be applied in a range of business contexts including the private, public and third sector.

Purchasing and Negotiation (EBUS242)

Credits: 15 / Semester: semester 2

The module concerns the functions and responsibilities associated with procuring materials, supplies and services, and the challenges and approaches to sourcing, negotiation, supplier development and supplier-client relationships. The strategic value of the Procurement function and its role with contemporary operations and supply chain design and management is comprehensively covered.
