The city: An urban sociology of Liverpool

Code: SOCI236

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 2

Cities are always fascinating places, but arguably Liverpool is an especially fascinating one. This module will develop your understanding of the social worlds of cities in general, and delve into the case of Liverpool in particular. Bringing together critical theoretical accounts of urban life – drawn from analysis of cities across the globe – and studies of Liverpool, SOCI236 will allow you to put into practice some theoretical and methodological ways of seeing the city. As well as classroom-based lectures and workshops, the module involves activities in the city itself; walking tours, film screenings, and assessments will all involve you engaging with Liverpool’s urban fabric in creative and imaginative ways.
