This fundamental module provides a comprehensive exploration of the drug discovery process, starting from the fundamental biology, medicinal and organic chemistry needed to progress through the programme. The module then progresses through target identification, lead development to preclinical development, with a focus on the latest scientific advances and methodologies. It integrates theoretical principles with practical approaches, emphasising the critical stages of drug discovery and development. Students will develop a sophisticated understanding of the strategies used to discover, optimise, and evaluate potential therapeutic agents. The module will be delivered through lectures and workshops and assessed through a class test, online quiz, workshop outputs and a final exam.
