This module draws on inequalities as a theoretical framework to critically examine social policies across key domains—housing, climate and sustainability, labour markets, family policy, immigration, pensions, health, and justice. It explores how policies impact different groups based on age, gender, ethnicity, migration status, and disability. It also draws on a framework of intersectionality to ensure policies are targeted and enable real-world change.
Students will analyse policy domains with inequalities in mind, assess the role of policies in perpetuating inequalities, and evaluate responses aimed at promoting equality. Through case studies and critical perspectives, the module fosters an understanding of the complex relationship between social policy, power, (in)equalities, and marginalisation, preparing students to engage with key challenges in the field.
