This module offers a further exploration of archaeological materials, combining practical laboratory experience with thorough introduction to the operation and application of analytical techniques in materials research. Building on foundational knowledge from ALGY250, students will gain a deeper understanding of a range of key analytical methodologies (apart from dating) used in archaeomaterials research. They will build confidence in laboratory skills, applying microscopic and instrumental techniques and learn to critically evaluate published research, formulate archaeological questions and to address them with appropriate programmes of analysis. The module is ideal for those aiming for careers in archaeological finds processing, heritage science of further research.
