A research coordinator position is available within the Cooper Group at the University of Liverpool. We particularly encourage applications from candidates in the following thematic areas, but this is not a delimiting list – excellent applicants from all areas of materials chemistry are encouraged to apply:
- Organic synthesis, as applied to functional materials
- Porous materials
- Polymers
- Supramolecular chemistry
- Materials for energy applications (including ferroelectrics)
- Automation technologies / robotics
- Computation and machine learning (especially candidates with skills in software)
The role will focus on highly challenging areas of new materials synthesis, characterisation, and computation. You will have considerable scope to contribute to strategic planning in the Cooper Group and to develop of new research directions.
The position is research-based, and you will develop new research directions and solve key problems arising in activity across the group. In addition to this high-level research contribution, the role will involve day-to-day supervision of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, representation of the group at major international conferences and at meetings with external collaborators, preparation of funding proposals (with co-investigator status where appropriate), and participation in recruitment activities (e.g., interviews for new PDRAs / PhDs).
The post will require a flexible approach in terms of willingness to change research fields, where required, and to rapidly follow up the strongest research opportunities.
