Unravelling the Mysteries of the Universe: An Astronomy Course for Curious Minds

Monday, 7 - 9pm

Start Date

17 February, 2025

There will be 8 weekly meetings on Monday, 7 - 9pm, starting from 17 February.

Overview

Discover the secrets of the universe with our astronomy course designed for curious minds. Have you ever wondered about the origins of the universe, or how scientists detect distant galaxies, black holes and dark energy? Our course provides a comprehensive overview of the techniques used by professional astronomers to study these and other phenomena.

No prior knowledge is required, and we show you how basic GCSE-level maths can be used to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos. You'll have the opportunity to re-engage with basic and essential maths skills and apply them to understand our universe better.

We understand that practical observation is essential in astronomy, and that's why we provide a weekly guide to observing the night sky. This experience will help you gain a deeper understanding of the cosmos, and you'll be able to apply the knowledge you've gained in a tangible way.

In addition to the 7 classroom sessions, this course features an excursion to the world-renowned Jodrell Bank Observatory. This unique opportunity provides a chance to see cutting-edge astronomical research in action and witness the marvels of the universe up close.

Don't miss out on this chance to explore the mysteries of space. Join our astronomy course today and start your journey of discovery.

Please note that the optional excursion will take place at Jodrell Bank, Bomish Lane, Lower Withington, Cheshire SK11 9DL on Saturday 5/4/25 between 11am and 3.30pm. Students wishing to take part will make their own way there.
