8. *Excursion: Observatory Visit: Liverpool Astronomical Society’s observatory in Cronton, Merseyside

Please note that the excursion will take place at will take place at the Leighton Observatory and Pex Hill Visitors Centre, Cronton, near Widnes, Cheshire, WA8 5QW, on Monday 18 November 2024 between 7pm and 9pm. Admission is free, but students must make their own way to and from the venue.

Please note that the ‘last date available to book’ date is only a guide. We reserve the right to close bookings earlier if courses are over- or under-subscribed. In order to avoid disappointment, please be sure enrol as soon as possible. Registrations will not be processed until the following day if received after 3pm. 

Course Lecturer: Paul Dearden

Paul completed a B.Sc. with the Open University focusing on astronomy and planetary science while working as Curator of the Planetarium at National Museums Liverpool. He then undertook an M.Sc. in the History of Science and Technology at the University of Liverpool, for which he researched the work of the Liverpool Observatory.

Paul is a Continuing Education Lecturer in Astronomy at the University of Liverpool and an Associate Lecturer in Astronomy at the Open University. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1999.
