Ghosts of Orion: Legacy of Liverpool's Collectors

Wednesday, 11am - 1pm

Start Date

30 April, 2025

There will be 5 weekly meetings on Wednesday 11am - 1pm, starting from 30 April.

Overview

The cultural fabric of Liverpool would arguably be as nothing had it not been for the dedication, and, in some cases, sheer bloody-mindedness of several of its citizens whose determination to improve the lots of their fellow men and women through an appreciation of art, science and history, led them to amass wondrous examples of human ingenuity in a series of collections that still rival anything that the British Museum has to offer. To these collectors, generations of Liverpool schoolchildren and curious adults owe much thanks, if for nothing else than the ability to look outside of themselves and consider the world and its peoples anew; without the need to travel any further than William Brown Street. This course is suitable for anyone interested in Liverpool history, art, culture and social ‘engineering’.
