Overview
Embark on a journey through Italian art from the mid-thirteenth to the early seventeenth century. This course goes beyond Florence and Rome, exploring the political, social, and religious dynamics that shaped major artistic movements over 350 years. Discover lesser-known centres of innovation and see how Italian art evolved under Byzantine and Renaissance influences, fostering new expressions of devotion that still resonate today.
We'll examine the lives and works of renowned masters and unsung talents across the Italian Peninsula, unravelling the intricate connections between art and society during this transformative era. Suitable for all art history enthusiasts, no prior experience required.
In addition to 10 weeks of classroom learning, an exclusive tour led by your tutor will visit two major London collections on Saturday 23rd November. This optional excursion, linked to your studies, incurs an additional cost and requires self-arranged travel. Enrolment details will be provided during the course.
