Overview

Join writer and creative practitioner, Dr Bernadette McBride, for an immersive one-day poetry writing workshop amidst the picturesque backdrop of Ness Botanic Gardens. Explore the sprawling 64-acre garden, offering breath-taking vistas of the River Dee and North Wales, providing an inspiring setting to explore the world of nature-inspired poetry.

Throughout the workshop, participants will embark on a literary journey, engaging in selected readings of renowned British, Welsh, and Welsh-British poets such as Dylan Thomas, Kate Roberts, and Deryn Rees-Jones. Engage in selected readings that resonate with the lush surroundings, drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of nature and culture.

Harnessing the tranquil ambiance of Ness Botanic Gardens, attendees will have the opportunity to craft their own Welsh-British-inspired poems, guided by Bernadette McBride's expert insights and encouragement. Immerse yourself in the creative process as you weave words amidst the beauty of nature, capturing the essence of the landscape in your written expressions.

As a bonus, participants will have the chance to see their poetic creations come to life in a new anthology of writing, showcasing the talent and creativity fostered within Liverpool Continuing Education's writing community. Course Lecturer: Dr Bernadette McBride

Dr Bernadette McBride is an English writer, director, and creative practitioner of Irish heritage who lives and works in Liverpool. She won an award for the 'Biggest Impact on the City of Liverpool' in 2019, she was shortlisted for the Manchester Fiction Prize in 2020, and in 2022 she was shortlisted for 'The best nature-based social prescribing project' for her creative practitioner and social advocacy work.
