Embark on a unique journey through Liverpool's Georgian Quarter with our immersive walking and place writing workshop. As we meander through historic streets and landmarks, we'll explore the art of capturing the essence of a place through writing. From the tomb of William Mackenzie to the enchanting Falkner Square, we'll encounter captivating sights and hidden gems that inspire thought and emotion. Traverse iconic locations on Hope Street and uncover the intriguing stories etched into the fabric of Liverpool's landscape, including the curious graves of St James Gardens at the Anglican Cathedral.

Discover what truly makes the soul of a place as we delve into Liverpool's rich diversity and vibrant history, reflected in its architecture, statues, and symbolic motifs. Learn the art of writing about a place on the go, mastering essential techniques from Psychogeography to emotional geography and Flâneurism.

No prior experience is necessary—all you need is a notepad and pen to capture your observations and insights. And as a special opportunity, attendees will have the chance to see their work collected in an upcoming anthology featuring writing produced by Liverpool Continuing Education's talented students. Join us for a transformative experience where you'll hone your writing skills while immersing yourself in the dynamic spirit of Liverpool's Georgian Quarter.

Course Lecturer: Dr Bernadette McBride

Dr Bernadette McBride is an English writer, director, and creative practitioner of Irish heritage who lives and works in Liverpool. She won an award for the 'Biggest Impact on the City of Liverpool' in 2019, she was shortlisted for the Manchester Fiction Prize in 2020, and in 2022 she was shortlisted for 'The best nature-based social prescribing project' for her creative practitioner and social advocacy work.
