Annual School Dragon Boat Race, 15th June
The Confucius Institute at the University of Liverpool staged the sixth Annual Schools Dragon Boat Race for schools across Merseyside. Three schools took part in the competition, with time trials in the morning and finals in the afternoon. After a hotly contested final, Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy were crowned champions, with St Chad’s in second and Alsop High School in third. Billy Hui from Radio Merseyside, was on hand to present the winners with their medals and trophies. Deputy Director of the Confucius Institute, John Tasker, said: “Dragon Boat Racing is a growing sport in the UK and worldwide with its unique combination of traditional culture, sport and teamwork.''
“You can see why when you see all the smiling faces today. I’m delighted that the Liverpool Confucius Institute has once again been able to organise this event and give young people across Merseyside the opportunity to learn about Chinese culture, keep fit and have fun.”
