Research Overview

I am interested in how attitudes spread and change, particularly regarding political and environmental issues. My research uses systems theory to study the formation of public opinion, such as how consensus, radicalisation and polarisation emerge from largely self-organising communication. I also study how changes in social norms are affected by the structure of social networks and relationships within them. I am particularly interested in how social media platforms can influence collective behaviour.

I have previously conducted research in a variety of areas, including cell biology, room acoustics, environmental modelling, biomechanics and nuclear energy. I am experienced with several quantitative techniques, including agent-based modelling, differential equations, spatial analysis, optimisation and machine learning.
