About
My name is Liam McLoughlin, and I joined the department in September 2022, having previously served at the University of Manchester, University of Salford and Birkbeck, University of London.
My research relates to the ways in which new communication platforms have changed the way we conduct politics. I have researched and published on how social media has changed theories of representation between citizens and those who seek to represent them. Relatedly, I have published on how digital platforms facilitate new communicative practices through memes, or abuse towards politicians. If you asked me to summarise my research into five key areas, I’d probably go with: political communication; social media; MPs & parliament; platform governance & representation theory.
Outside of academia, he can normally be found with Bowen and Ron the Golden Retrievers, enjoying photography (film & digital), video games, and other technological hijinks.
