Intern with the Green Party

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Liverpool in English Literature and Politics before choosing to continue my studies with the MA in Media and Politics. I always had a particular interest at undergraduate level in the media’s relationship with the current political climate so I immediately knew it was the course for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed every single module I studied throughout the MA and I appreciated the variability of modules to choose from in the course as it allowed me an insight that is broad but detailed in all aspects of the political media landscape; from political party campaign techniques to immigration and media economy.

The support that I received throughout, and beyond, my time on the Media and Politics course from my academic supervisor, and other lecturers alike, was amazing. I felt like I could ask any questions I needed and they guided me to get the most out of the course even though we were not on campus for the majority of the course due to COVID-19.

Although challenging at times, the most enjoyable part of the course for me was the final dissertation. I chose to write my dissertation on the extent and framing of climate related discourse on Twitter surrounding political and extreme weather events. I really loved being able to fully immerse myself in a topic I am passionate about and be able to do my own research.

Since graduating, I have interned with the Green Party and helped build a campaign, both on and offline, with local Liverpool councillors for the local elections in May 2021. Further, my dissertation was accepted for the 2021 International Communication Association (ICA) conference and the research is now in hopes of being published. The MA Media and Politics course overall has given me the knowledge and skills to have a successful career in the political media field, both first hand in political parties or through academic research.
