Harshitha is currently serving as a Communications Intern at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals in Watford.

Tell us a little bit about the role you do now.

I am currently serving as a Communications Intern at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals in Watford. In my role, I engage in various responsibilities, such as conducting research and analysis on existing communications, collaborating with the European team to formulate a comprehensive communications plan for the Europe Region, ensuring consistent internal communications across markets by working with marketing teams, analyzing and reporting on communication activities and campaigns, creating and implementing an internal communications calendar, fostering engagement across the region, curating content for the monthly newsletter, and supporting the HR team in promoting and enhancing Glenmark's Employer Brand.

How did you get into it?

My journey into Internal Communications began during my internship in India with an agency. Subsequently, my dissertation focused on Internal Communications and Employee Experience, and through collaborations with Philips India and Bosch India, my interest in Employee Engagement and Communications deepened. My current role has provided me with valuable opportunities in this field.

How have you used your degree?

My BA in Journalism and Mass Communications laid the foundation for my interests, skills, and passion. Additionally, my MSc in Strategic Communications equipped me with research skills, emphasizing the importance of case studies, theories, and strategic thinking for businesses.

What are your top tips for students wanting to work in your field?

For students aspiring to enter this field, I recommend exploring extracurricular activities that align with their interests, such as graphic design workshops, participation in Toastmaster International for public speaking, and engaging in content writing activities. This field values a diverse set of skills and knowledge, transcending the need for a specific degree. Hence, I advise students to utilize their time for developing and honing skills.
